L-2M Project

The L-2, adapted from Taylorcraft's pre-war commercial model Tandem Trainer, was initially designated the O-57 at the time it was first ordered by the Army Air Corps.  The airplane was given its service tests in the summer of 1941 during maneuvers in Louisiana and Texas where it was used for various support purposes such as a light transport and courier.

Bill Johnson is restoring 2 examples of the L-2, both “M” models. The first was a flyer that is being completely restored and upgraded with an 0-200 Continental and Cleveland brakes.  The other was a basket case that will go back completely original with a Cont. 65.  Both will have Green Houses and “Wing Spoilers”.  An airframe jig was built with the flyer as the model for repairs to the second one. Bill’s intent is to keep the first one and sell the second ship to some lucky soul..

What it should look like when it’s done. This is an L-2A with a Bug Cowl and Wing Spoiler STC. The L-2M’s have pressure cowls.
