During the summer of 2000 I joined a group of kids who attended the Georgia Aviation Camp.
This week-long event was sponsored by Lockheed-Martin, Sci-Trek and the Georgia Youth Science & Technology Center. I was kind of nervous at first, but by the time we got there I knew it was going to be a fun week. When everyone was ready, we gathered in a circle where we got to meet our counselors who introduced themselves and put us in different classes. I was placed in Todd and Jeff’s group. They were really nice.
The week was full of lots of exciting activities.
We learned about good and bad flying conditions and different types of clouds, but the most exciting time was the field trip to Lockheed. I really did not know how it all was going to work, but when we were told what to expect I knew that it was going to be an exciting day. We were supposed to see the YF-22 fly at Dobbins AFB, but it was too cloudy, so we went on to Lockheed were we saw more airplanes... C-5’s, C-130’s on the assembly line, and the control tower.
I had a really great time and I hope more kids can go and have as much fun as I did. I would like to thank Liz Porter, Bill Johnson and Warbird Chapter 17 for the opportunity. Thank you so much.
